  • PCRG is partnering with the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) on a pilot project known as the Community Acquisition and Rehabilitation Loan (CARL). CARL will help lower income individuals and families purchase and renovate homes. The URA will commit $1 million toward guaranteeing 15 percent of renovation loans for CARL. Councilman Corey O'Connor is also committing $100,000 to pilot project. For more details, please see the Post-Gazette article by Diana Nelson Jones on the CARL pilot project.
  • On March 30th, Aggie Brose, Deputy Director of Bloomfield-Garfield Corp and PCRG Chairperson, wrote an Op-ed, "A land bank would strengthen neighborhoods," supporting land banking in Pittsburgh.
  • Penn State Students Consulting for Non-profit Organizations (SCNO) is a student run pro bono consulting organization based at Penn State University.  The SCNO engage high quality clients yearly to provide consulting services that will aid nonprofits in being efficient and successful.  During this past school year, they piloted their work in Pittsburgh for the first time; their two Pittsburgh area clients included the South Side Tavern and Restaurant Association and Hair Peace. The SCNO would like to continue to include Pittsburgh in their portfolio. As with the first effort in Pittsburgh, they will hold monthly in person meetings with their clients as well as weekly phone calls to discuss progress and next steps. If your organization is interested in the SCNO program, please complete and submit this engagement application via email to scno.psu@gmail.com by April 21, 2014.  if you would like to learn more or discuss the application, please contact Brady Sheehan, Vice President of Client Relations, at bcs5235@psu.edu or (248) 840-9286.
  • Pittsburgh Downtown Community Development Corporation (PDCDC) will host its Hatch Kick-Off Celebration (click here for a flyer) at the Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre (located at 937 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222) on April 28th at 5:30PM.  Hatch is a civic crowdfunding platform for Allegheny County. Crowdfunding is when a group of people pool together small amounts of money to fund a project or idea. Hatch harnesses the power of crowdsourcing to raise money for small business start-ups, arts programs, nonprofits and individuals with ideas that benefit their communities. At hatch.pdcdc.org you can find and fund projects that directly benefit your local community, giving you the power to choose where you see change.Please RSVP to Hadley Pratt at hpratt@pdcdc.org or call 412-235-7263. This event is free and open to all community organizations, local non-profits, arts groups and entrepreneurs.
