Program Coordinator (Internship)
POSITION OVERVIEWThe Program Coordinator position involves event planning and coordination, data collection and analysis, community engagement, member outreach, and policy research and analysis. Although there are several responsibilities and tasks detailed below, it is anticipated that this position will focus primarily on the Community Development Summit and the Reimagine Communities Initiative.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Community Development Summit: Work directly with the Neighborhood Policy Manager to plan and coordinate the fourth annual Community Development Summit;
- Reimagine Communities: Assist the Reimagine Communities Team (Neighborhood Policy Manager, Sheraden Community Coordinator, and Hazelwood Community Coordinator) with neighborhood engagement and data collection and analysis;
- Membership: Conduct outreach to members, specifically for PCRG sponsored member events, relevant advocacy and policy issues, and various other opportunities; help identify and synthesize members’ needs; promote members’ events, projects, and initiatives when appropriate;
- Working Groups: Support the work of all working groups and committees lead by Neighborhood Policy Manager when requested, including attending meetings and recording and disseminating minutes;
- Research: Conduct policy research and advocacy, specifically around public safety and small business development, as needed;
- Assist other PCRG staff as needed
TASKS
- Provide administrative support and coordination related to the annual Community Development Summit. Tasks may include the creation of distribution lists, communication with speakers and presenters, sponsor and advertiser mailings, supply ordering and organization, event promotion, PowerPoint creation, etc.;
- Support the work in Sheraden and Hazelwood as part of the Reimagining Communities Initiative. Assistance for this initiative would include community surveying, property inventories, data collection, input, and analysis. This includes but is not limited to the identification, collection, and synthesis of neighborhood indicators (housing values, crime stats, foreclosures, vacancy, etc.);
- Assist with coordinating speakers, meeting resources, and RSVPs for the bi-monthly Safe Neighborhoods Network meeting;
- Assist with the coordination and research to support other Neighborhood Policy Working Groups, including the Business Development Working Group, the Community Development Working Group, the Executive Director’s Roundtable, the President’s Roundtable, and the Membership Committee;
- Help maintain the organization’s web presence, including but not limited to the website, Facebook, and Twitter;
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESPCRG is seeking a proactive candidate with strong interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate is aself-starter and should have the following:
- Enrollment in a graduate program with an emphasis on research, public policy, community development, urban affairs, Geographic Information Systems, or management (all related majors are encouraged to apply);
- Excellent research, analysis, presentation, and verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to synthesize multiple viewpoints, opinions, and data into workable pieces;
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Knowledge of web/graphic design a plus);
- Proficiency and experience with GIS software preferred;
- Strong organizational skills.
Hours: 20 hours a week during fall and spring semester with some flexibility.Compensation: Hourly rate ($12), plus academic credit if applicable. Federal Community Work Service if eligible.This position reports directly to the Neighborhood Policy Manager.
