Reimagining Communities Initiative Secures Federal Resources
Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group’s (PCRG) Reimagining Communities Initiative, in partnership with New Sun Rising (NSR), has been awarded Federal assistance under the AmeriCorps VISTA program in the form of seven (7) full time VISTA Member positions.Beginning late summer of 2015, VISTA Members will be placed within host organizations, working to build capacity and opportunity for underserved neighborhoods throughout the Pittsburgh region. Members commit to intensive one-year service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship. In addition to PCRG and New Sun Rising, program sites will include the Millvale Community Library and Opportunity Hub South in Pittsburgh’s Allentown neighborhood.The Reimagining Communities Initiative VISTA Program will help participating organizations build and enhance impact and sustainability by developing programs, strategic collaborations, citizen engagement, fundraising, research, evaluation methods, and volunteer capacity.VISTA, which stands for Volunteers in Service to America, is a federal program of the Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS) working to bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty. During the program’s 50 year existence, over 900,000 AmeriCorps Members have contributed more than 1.2 billion hours in service across America, tackling poverty-related problems and mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve.Recruitment of VISTA Members under this project will begin in mid-April.Click the graphic below for a copy of the official announcement.
