Tuesday, August 6, 2013 is National Night Out (NNO). This year’s NNO in Pittsburgh theme is, “It’s a Beautiful Night in the Neighborhood" The Mayor encourages participating groups to register their event on the City’s NNO webpage to receive helpful resources, including a new downloadable planning guide.When residents register their event, they will receive the tools and instructions needed to organize a successful celebration and a packet of useful public safety information created specifically for local community groups.Last year, more than 25 organizations participated in the City’s NNO celebration, hosting porch parties, picnics, neighborhood carnivals and more.Mayor Ravenstahl will issue a proclamation declaring August 6, 2013, “National Night Out” in the City of Pittsburgh. Safe Neighborhoods Network convened on Thursday, June 27th to discuss new and innovative approaches to addressing public safety issues in our communities. Andy Quayle, a Dispatcher at Munhall Borough Police Department and one of the administrators for the Munhall Crime Watch Facebook page, presented on using social media for public safety. Rebekkah Ranallo, Communications Manager at Oakland Planning and Development Corporation, spoke about a community-led code enforcement project, known as Oakwatch, that has resulted in over 200 reported problem properties and almost 70 housing court cases.
