Code Enforcement Sweep Planned for Beltzhoover
A code enforcement sweep in Beltzhoover is being mobilized by the Beltzhoover Community Forum on November 12, 2015. Using the data collected from the Parcel Inventory process conducted by the Reimagining Communities Initiative, the area of enforcement will be Cedarhurst Street to Sylvania Avenue, and Estella Avenue to Beltzhoover Avenue. The goal of the code enforcement sweep is to improve the quality of life in Beltzhoover. The code enforcement sweep will target issues identified by Beltzhoover residents, including abandoned homes, cracked sidewalks, and overgrown lots and yards. Homeowners that receive a citation will then have the opportunity to fix the issue before a second inspection. In other cities that have conducted similar campaigns, the majority of cases have been resolved without going to court. In response to the planned code enforcement sweep, LaShawna Russ, Beltzhoover Community Coordinator from PCRG, is encouraging residents to make one-on-one appointments to review the code enforcement details and provide residents with resources to rectify issues prior to the sweep. Over the course of the next year the Pittsburgh Department of Permits, Licenses and Inspections will expand the code enforcement sweep to include the entire Beltzhoover Community.Beltzhoover residents are encouraged to contact LaShawna Russ at lruss@pcrg.org to book one-on-one appointments or to learn more about the issue.
