RCI Update: Zipcar Opens New Location in Hazelwood
The Reimagining Communities Initiative has been working in Hazelwood for the past year on a variety of projects to build community capacity. The recent partnership between the Hazelwood Initiative and Zipcar is a great example of a way that business and community organizations can partner together to effect change in a neighborhood.Representatives from the Hazelwood Initiative, Zipcar, PCRG, and City Councilman Corey O'Connor came together on April 6th, 2016 to officially welcome Zipcar to the neighborhood. The new Zipcar, which will be stationed at the Hazelwood Library, joins a fleet of over 80 vehicles in the city of Pittsburgh. Zipcars can be reserved on a mobile app, by phone, or online, and include gas, insurance, and 180 miles of driving.RCI's Alyssa P. Lyon, Community Coordinator for Hazelwood, worked with Sonya Tilghman, Executive Director of the Hazelwood Initiative, to provide community input for the expansion. “The Hazelwood Initiative is thrilled about our partnership with Zipcar, especially because of the ongoing accessibility and transportation issues in Hazelwood,” said Lyon. “The addition of Zipcar will help mitigate transportation barriers that residents are currently facing and give them more access to opportunity.”
