Summit Sessions Address More Topics, Reach Broader Audiences

Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group's Sixth Annual Community Development Summit is rapidly approaching. On May 17-18, join passionate, innovative community and economic development leaders from all sectors as we explore efforts to build and sustain healthy, vibrant, and inclusive communities. Leveraging “The Power of PLACE”, sessions and workshops this year will move beyond placemaking to place establishing, growing, and activating. At this year's Summit we have expanded our content from traditional community development to related, vital fields like food, education, health, and the arts as we explore a holistic approach to fostering place and communities.

While our keynotes provide a broad contextual frame for discussion, our sessions and mobile tours are the setting where more intimate conversation can take place. Most of the sessions include speakers from a variety of fields. Nonprofit professionals, government employees, consultants, architects, activists, and community leaders come together around the same table to share their experiences. Our sessions and mobile workshops present case studies and practical toolkits that inspire change across the region.

Some of the exciting sessions attendees can look forward to include:

  • "How Neighbors Joined Together to Create a Vision for an Abandoned School" - Learn from the example of the neighborhood of Hazelwood, which came together to fight for their vision for a key asset in their community.
  • "Neighborhood Change & Displacement: The Voices of the Community" - Discover the impacts of neighborhood change on community members across multiple facets of life.
  • "Battling Blight with Green Infrastructure" - Several local groups present how they are pursuing green solutions to issues around both blight and growth.
  • "Organizing Around Transit Equity in Place and in Motion" - Two different experiences organizing for transit equity led to two successful improvements in regional transit access.

The full schedule and list of sessions can be found online at the PCRG Summit website. Register by April 22nd to receive Early Bird Pricing.
